For the Borderline project we spent months finding about the truth behind the screen. In many cases we're fooled by articles like "Donald Trump Declares War" and quickly chose to believe it without investigating and seeing if the source is reliable in the first place.
This project started by partnering up and finding a conspiracy theory to present to class. Although you might think its easy , its actually a little bit challenging because you have find stories on why this is and isn't true. My partner and I decide that our conspiracy theory would be "Walmart Building Fema Camps" We struggled on how to explain it because there is so much to it. When we finally presented let me just say it was a mess! We were not prepared and to be honest we didn't even fully understand our conspiracy theory.

After Presenting our Conspiracy theories Dr.P try to fool us although it didn't really work. He shared with us a "Random Website" and he asked us to investigate. Within minutes we emailed the creator of the website which led to Dr.P's email. Also we found out that some of the pictures that were used in the website were pictures of ancient rocks from Indian Tribes far away from from San Diego. We then later came up with the idea to make it more believable so we can fool the other class. It didn't work because they found out it was Dr.P immediately.

After Dr.p attempting to fool us the other class came up with the idea that we should try and Hoax the whole school. Yes, the whole school. The idea seemed so awesome at first. One of my classmates and I came up with the idea of having a "Mystery Boy" in the background of pictures and videos and then the word would spread and become this big thing at our school. The story behind it would be that the boy went missing back in the first year High Tech High Chula Vista opened and no one seemed to notice until his parents reported it to the police and then mysteriously vanished. We had trouble trying to figuring out the background story because you have to consider so much.
After everyone pitching their ideas we voted on the best conspiracy theory which was "Bannadine Outbreak" we had to figure out how to get the word out, what the background story was and how to leave little crumbs for our school to catch on. We hit so many bumps that Dr.p assigned us to write a page on how we think our process is going. I believed that we could make it happen.

After discussing it with our class we decided that it would be very challenging to hoax the school because we had to consider peoples reputation, the backstory etc. So we ended not hoaxing the school, which was a bummer for most of us.
We wanted to still do something related to hoaxing the school so Dr.P decide to make the project on how to spot unreliable sources and how to not get fooled. We spent 2 days looking at a picture with a small description

"Jenny got up at 5 a.m. every day and jumped on her bicycle to deliver the morning newspapers. One of her stops was at Winston Peacock's house. He lived alone, and everyone in the town thought he had a fortune hidden somewhere in his house. His house was built into a hill, so the only way inside was through a front door or a single window. Jenny had never been inside of Winston's house, but each morning he would open the door and wave to her, and as she pedaled away, she would hear him close and bolt the door.
On the last day of the year, Winston greeted her as usual, but the next morning there was no sign of him. Jenny assumed he was sleeping late since it was New Year's Day. On January 2nd, however, his newspaper and two bottles of milk were lying in front of his door. A bit worried, she peeked into the nearest window. Although none of the lights were on, she could see Winston lying on the floor near his desk. She knew something was wrong, so she jumped on her bike and rode as fast as she could to the police station.
A team of detectives went straight to the house. After looking through the window to verify Jenny's report, the detectives decided to enter the house. They had to break a window in order to gain entrance into the house. "
With this information we had to figure out if he committed suicide or got murdered. We had to analyze every little thing and write our evidence and claim. Some of my peers and I were questioning on why we were even doing this in the first place when I Dr.p he told me that when we write article we have to always include our evidence and write the claim for it and it all made sense on why we were doing this.
After this we watched a lot of videos by a man named Dan Rather. He had a lot of knowledge on journalism then after watching these videos we had to write an essay on a posed question which was "What is the biggest threat facing journalism?"

To this day I still agree with what I wrote.
Then we did a small activity which was in our tables we had to do an ad campaign on a vitamin that "helps you live 300 years old" The purpose of this activity was to try and make the ad as believable as possible for our "audience", to try and fool them like some ads out there are trying to fool us with.
After many decisions we decided to fool the 8th graders by making a fake articles and seeing if they could spot all the "red flags" but by doing this we need practice so we created a fake article and then gave it to the other class to see if they can spot our red flags.

Then after coming up with ideas we each wrote our fake news article we had to put several red flags in it and see if the 8th graders could spot them. After making them reliable we gave it to a class of 8th graders then we met up with them and discussed why our articles were not reliable.
By then we only had 4 days left until Fesitval Del Sol so we had to fix up our articles and then we all got put into groups for our roles for Festival Del Sol. I was put into Fundraising so I had to come up with ideas on how to fundraise and my group and I came up with the idea of "Fake News,Fake Booze" Overall my role in Exhibition was serving the cocktails but I got to see people present their articles and our hard work !
